The Chronicle of Philanthropy recently reported that one third of wealthy donors volunteered that they could have made more gifts than they did last year. What held them back? A variety of things. These donors said they would likely give more if charities did the following:
- Could demonstrate an extraordinary need (22%)
- Could show a reduction in administrative/fundraising expenses (22%)
- Would stop sending unwanted gifts/trinkets (21%)
- Would reduce the volume of solicitations they send (19%)
- Would provide regular communication on accomplishments from contributions (15%)
- Had a matching gift (13%)
- Invited to see charitable work in person (10%)
- They could restrict/designate their giving (10%)
- Someone they respected asked for the gift (10%)
Listen and learn. Apply these practices to your fundraising and reap the rewards.
